New York

For my 21st birthday, I was lucky enough to go to New York and explore the beautiful city by myself. Little did I know how much I would end up falling in love with the place...

The first few days I explored Times Square and Broadway to try and get used to the grid system: easier than England's winding streets but it still took a while to get used to it! For a girl with no directional skill whatsoever, I like to think I picked it up pretty quickly.

As amazing as Manhattan was, where I was lucky enough to be staying next to Broadway street, the place I fell in love with was Greenwich Village. It was much clearer and urban and with the red brick buildings and steel girders, the buildings looked beautiful. And the designer shops and Chelsea Market were some of the best parts I experienced in New York. The smells and sights of quirky little cafes and the most intricately designed cupcakes and pastries were bordering on obscene. All I do know if that my dream flat now needs to have red bricks and metallic accents.

It was so amazing, and I was pretty sad to be coming home. However, one thing I will say is definitely go with someone. Even though I skyped my boyfriend most nights, it got pretty lonely. Especially because the woman I was staying with was pretty busy doing important doctor stuff. I mean it wasn't too much of a hardship: gorgeous apartment, hours to shop and pretend that this was my life now. However, I will need to return one day as I finally felt like I belonged in a city as opposed to just assuming the natural progression in life.
