You've been working 1hr 40mins for FREE every single day | Cosmopolitan
Despite David Cameron promising a crackdown on the pay gap, women still technically work 1 hour and 40 minutes a day unpaid compared to men, new stats have shown.
So even though you may work until 5.30pm, technically you're working for free from 3.50 onwards.
If you don't think that sounds so bad, this adds up to 57 days a year. That's an eight-week holiday you could take. Or 1,378 hours of watching Netflix.
The Chartered Management Institute surveyed 72,000 people in the UK to get this depressing statistic. They also found the pay gap between management positions is a whopping £8,524 less per year if you're a woman.
That eight-week holiday we just mentioned? Totally doable if you had an extra £8k burning a hole in your pocket.
But don't worry - at least when you get that bonus, things will even out right? WRONG. We actually get nearly half the bonuses men do, with a woman's average bonus coming in at £2,531 and men's being £4,898.
We're being slightly flippant because if we didn't laugh about this we'd cry - but it's actually a situation that desperately needs tackling.
We're all for putting in the hours, but it's slightly depressing when Gary next to you is effectively earning an extra two months' pay for doing the exact same job. And without parity in pay, how will we win equality in other areas?
However there is some good news. The pay gap between men and women has been in such contention recently that it's lead to a new legislation being introduced in 2016, where any company with over 250 employees have to publish the salaries they're paying all their workers.
The other good news is that we'll feel a lot less guilty next time our date offers to pay, because even if you do the exact same job, he's probably earning about five cocktails and a meal at GBK more than you. With a pudding.
